Description

Dog first aid course – Overview

Our dog first aid course is delivered as a comprehensive full-day workshop. Our tutor guides students through a visual presentation alongside practical bandaging and CPR sessions. To ensure a realistic learning experience, the course utilises training aids and specialist dog CPR manikins. Furthermore, workshops incorporate ‘real-life’ scenarios, photographs, and videos to enhance the understanding of each topic. Each student receives a personal learning pack, including a dog first aid guide and all necessary bandaging materials for the day.

Accreditation and qualification options for your dog first aid course

We [The Dog First Aid Co. Ltd] are an accredited CPD provider with The CPD Group and a registered training provider for iPET Network. Because iPET Network is an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual, CCEA Regulation, and Qualifications Wales, students can choose between two distinct certification paths. Consequently, this course is available as either a CPD Accreditation or the enhanced Ofqual regulated iPET Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid.

Option 1: CPD Accreditation

The CPD Accreditation serves as a certificate of attendance and proof of Continued Professional Development. While this is not a formal qualification, it is highly recommended for individuals who do not require regulated certification. Students simply complete the day course to receive their certificate; however, no further home study is required. To maintain up-to-date knowledge, a refresher course is recommended every three years.

Option 2: iPET Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid

iPET Network: International Pet Education and Training Network | iPET Network Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid

The iPET Network Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid is a formal, Ofqual-regulated qualification that remains valid for three years. Crucially, this qualification contributes towards licensing requirements for professional kennels, day care centres, and boarding facilities etc. Therefore, this path is recommended for anyone working professionally within the pet industry.

To register for this qualification, students must provide a registration form and valid identification. Instructions for this process are sent via email one week before the course starts. Additionally, this level requires one hour of home study and photographic evidence of practical assessments. A secure online portfolio is created for each student to manage these requirements, with all guidance provided by the course tutor.

Assessment and certification process

Once a student completes the workbook and home study, the portfolio is submitted to an iPET Network External Quality Assurer (EQA). Following a successful assessment, the e-certificate is awarded. Please note that iPET Network now issues electronic certificates, which include a QR code for easy verification by employers.

This entire process typically takes approximately 12–16 weeks from the course date. Although the e-certificate is the standard, printed iPET Level 3 Award certificates are available for purchase directly from the iPET Network for an additional cost. Finally, the higher fee for this level covers additional tutoring, portfolio management, and awarding body administration.
